Had to get a room for the night before an interview. It was small, easy to feel comfortable, and comfy. And I got the job.—— Michael H
First of all look at the cost and the location. Cheap and almost in the centre. It's a ten minute walk to the BART station on Powell and Market so you can get the trams, MUNI and BART to get around the city. The negatives are the hotel is threadbare and fixtures and fittings are dated. Maybe not the place for a romantic honeymoon but if you want a cheap holiday and are prepared to accept its on the edge of the Tenderloins district then go for it. San Francisco has a large homeless problem and you will notice this no matter where you stay. Just don't go more than two blocks down. But having said that nobody bothered me coming and going from this hotel. Overall I was happy to stay there as this city is not cheap so the benefits are there if you just want a shower and a bed. Also there is a cheap cafe on the block to start your day off as the free breakfast is basic.—— Stephen W
So this hotel, it is exactly what you pay for in the location it is in. It has free Wi-Fi! woo. I don't know what else to really compliment. The staff were very nice as well. I think this place would be very nice if they did some minor renovations. New carpet and new sheets would do great justice. For non picky people who just want a bed to sleep in this is what you need for the price.—— Micaela V
If you book Mithila by internet be aware that you may not get a bathroom but are asked to share one. You will then be asked to pay $20.00 more a night. You would probably agree as you would be jet lagged and couldnt be bothered to argue, Bit of a con!
Continental breakfast is muffins, sweet cakes and oatmeal sachets. Cant do much with oatmeal as no crockery supplied.—— bevan r
Good value and location, nice staff and room was nice too – no view but large enough and with a desk, TV bath etc. Problem was with the other guests – we never saw them but heard them! This walls meant you could hear everything, so half three was woken by someone coming in drunk in the room above, falling over, braking things, crying and then proceeding to be sick for an hour. Other guest too came in to join the party. Complained to reception who did come and ask me where the noise was coming from (was pretty obvious I thought!) and said he would have a word which I’m sure he did, but the noise carried on. We had to get up to catch a train at 5am to wrote off getting any sleep by this stage but the noise was still in full swing. Was unfortunate really, because the hotel would have been a great budget option so guess you could chance it and fingers crossed the same guy won’t be staying there!—— Samuel C
If you want just a roof over your head and do not mind the noise, lack of service, facilities and heating switched off by the owner just when you need it most in the middle of the winter nights, standing in front of the so called bar without any stool and drink your terrible coffee, this is the place for you.—— sfjchan
If you dont have much money to spend, this hotel is OK for a solo traveler. It certainly isnt for couples as the rooms and beds are way too small.
Its VERY VERY old, something your great grandma would have found rather appealing.
Its centrally located though, about 15-20 minutes walk from Powell BART up the hills.
The room had a TV with a non-functioning remote, microwave, bar fridge, over-head fan, alarm-radio and night lamp. There is greatfuly free wifi, not fast though as my speedtest.net measured less than 1Mbps.
There is an old manual-door elevator and some hefty and very narrow spiral stairs if you get afraid of the elevator.
The reception will take an imprint of a credit card and force you to sign a document stating you could be held liable for unspecified breakages, smoking in non-smoking room etc. You cant back out if you've prepaid online, so you HAVE to hand over your card and sign the document.
Breakfast is a joke and is "served" on a tiny table at the elevator door next to reception. It consists of:
1. Coffee only
2. Powder creamer
3. Sugar, but no sweetner
4. A tiny muffin
5. A packet of oatmeal, but no spoon, bowl or milk for it
Yes, thats it -- breakfast worth around $1.95 tops. You are best off going to the supermarket next door where coffee is a dollar and more variety - plus you get fresh milk.
Traffic noise during the night is terrible, compounded by loading at the supermarkets nearby starting at 5am! Avoid the front rooms at all cost!—— CoolDude2012
